DESCRIPTION

We will leave Santander at 9:30 am towards Puente Viesgo, a beautiful small village next to El Castillo mount which has four caves with Palaeolithic art declared World Heritage by UNESCO since 2008. We will visit two of these caves: El Castillo and Las Monedas caves.

El Castillo cave contains one of the oldest paintings in the world, dated at least 40.800 years ago. Las Monedas cave contains designs drawn in charcoal dated about 12,000 years ago. It also has an important geologic value due to its geological formations.

After a short visit to Puente Viesgo we will lead towards the village of Vega de Pas. This small village between the mountains is one of the original pasiego villages and it is where we will stop for lunch.
In Vega de Pas we will also visit the ethnological Museum of the Pasiego Villas and we will learn about the traditional way of living of the farmers in this area.

We will also enjoy a scenic drive across the wonderful mountains up to the waterfall which is the birthplace of the Yera river. During this drive, you will enjoy one of the most wonderful mountain landscapes in Cantabria.

Finally, we will continue our driving towards Santander, but doing another short stop in the viewpoint of “La Braguía” from where you will enjoy the beautiful views over the Pasiego Valeys and Vega de Pas.
